The internet has definitely changed the lives forever, of those who use personal computers. Itís difficult to believe that prior to ten short years ago, there were no Google, My Space, or other technologies we know and use today. This revolution to connect the world arrived and grew at speeds that are unimaginable. What did we do with all the time we now spend communicating with others via e-mail, as well as using the internet to conduct business and organizational functions?
Anyone that is at least ten years old today, has not lived a day without the Internet. Even most teenagers today, probably canít remember what it was like without the Internet.
To me, the true power of the Internet lies in the personal relationships that are formed and are nurtured, that would have been impossible prior to the World Wide Web. A great example that inspired me to write this article is the friendship that I have made with an individual who lives 12 Ė 13 time zones away, depending on whether or not we are on Daylight Savings Time. His name is Gary Simpson and he lives in Perth, Australia.
By chance one day, Gary ventured on to eHappyLife.com, and sent me an e-mail of introduction. One e-mail led to another and we learned that although we lived on opposite ends of the world, we had a great deal in common. We both had an insatiable thirst to learn and grow as individuals. We read similar books; listened to similar educational tapes and CD's; attended similar seminars; and shared many similar values, disciplines and philosophies. We both had similar websites and each had a similar mission to help inspire others to be the BEST they could be - unconditionally. We both even liked the same taste in wine Ė Merlot.
After a few months went by exchanging lots of e-mails, we scheduled monthly phone calls which are more time efficient. Our monthly phone calls last 60-90 minutes in length, discussing political, educational and family issues. We engage in lots of laughing and have thoroughly enjoy ourselves as true friends. After more than 5 years of months of communicating with Gary, he and his wife came to the United States for a visit, and spent a week at our home. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed their company and have become even closer friends. We plan on traveling together with the Simpsons to other places around the world in the future.
With all the qualities that I admire about Gary, I must add one more that cannot be overlooked. Gary is blessed with a talent to write and is an accomplished author. He has published several books that are a delight to read. I am so proud of the extraordinary effort he puts into his writing. He only knows one way to communicate and that is from his heart. He touches on all the human emotions and personal qualities we all strive to improve, in an effort to lead a fulfilling lifestyle. Because I know Gary so well, his words really jump out and impact me. I know that he writes from his vast knowledge and personal experiences and his content is GREAT!. Here are just some of the topics he covers - buts there's so much more:
