Question-Week ending Sunday 08/01/04:
How often do you actually make the time to relax your mind and body FOR FREE, in a hot bath or Jacuzzi? Please read our Pre-Poll Commentary before taking this poll.

Our 27th keyword in our poll series on moods and emotions is RELAXATION. For the purpose of this poll we will describe RELAXATION as "a refreshment of body or mind." A complete list of the polls in this series can be found below:

Introduction to Positive Moods and Emotions

Refreshing your mind and body is just as important to your well being as working hard, eating properly, exercising and staying fit. But less attention is given to just relaxing for FREE on a couch and reading, as you refresh your mind and body. There's little profit for anyone to make to promote this activity so don't expect to hear how important it is to JUST relax..

For those who think relaxing is lying in front of the TV watching a 24 hour news channel - forget it! This is not relaxation. You are just shifting your attention from your own hectic life and stress producing activities to the vast problems of others. This is not very refreshing.

However, enjoying a good rental movie from the couch with your loved one, that makes you feel more refreshed by the end of the movie than when you started - can count as a form of relaxation. A few laughs here and there would definitely add to the enjoyment. However forget the killer - thriller movies that wear you out instead of refresh you.

Relaxing is an individual art. There are so many relaxing pastimes and hobbies that people take part in, that can count as refreshing their minds and bodies. The key is to figure out what makes you feel refreshed and then plan the time to DO IT! As an example - if you enjoy relaxing in a hot tub or Jacuzzi, then MAKE THE TIME to do it. Many people spend thousands of dollars equipping their homes with a Jacuzzi, Hot Tub or Spa but never use them. They're just too busy!

Make your relaxing time a special event that you look forward to. Don't get distracted from your plan. Set a day and starting time just like the big college or pro football game you can't wait to watch. Somehow you won't miss that appointment. Likewise, don't miss the time to relax!

Savor in the art of relaxation and treat yourself to an activity that could promote your well being. It's an important part of the game of life and can pay huge dividends toward your attitude, productivity and success.

Post-Poll Commentary:
Wow...is all I can say. I am astonished that so few people take the time to engage in one of my favorite passions. I know that relaxation time is worth a high premium in a busy life. However what can be more relaxing than enjoying a hot bath or Jacuzzi?

I hate to rub it in but I was one of the participants that voted three or more times a week. Because I swim laps every day, my following activity is to reward myself for my efforts in a Jacuzzi. And it's wonderful.

However, even before I built a swimming pool I always found time to relax in an indoor Jacuzzi. Maybe not as often as I do now, however I always made it a priority to find the time to relax.

Of course there are many other ways to relax your mind and body. Any method is fine. The point is to plan to do it and then make the time to RELAX! As often as you can. We all need to refresh our minds and bodies and I am certain that relaxation is an activity that people just about squeeze into their busy lives. My purpose of this poll is to point out the importance to your well being to find the time for relaxation. Choose the activities that fit you best. Then just do it!

But if you own a spa, hot tub or Jacuzzi - use it. I would not steer your wrong!
