Being Attentive

Question-Week ending Sunday 02/29/04:
Using our definition of “Being Attentive” - who were you MOST attentive with during your lifetime, when interacting with them? Please read our Pre-Poll Commentary before taking this poll.

Pre-Poll Commentary:

Our fifth keyword in our poll series on moods and emotions is ATTENTIVE. For the purpose of this poll we will use the word attentive in the context of our thoughts and actions. We also understand that attentive is applied to the senses of hearing and seeing. We are primarily concerned about being attentive while interacting with others as well as being attentive to the details in life that may make a positive impact in our relationships. Some simple descriptions of being attentive include being alert, aware, conscientious, interested, mindful, observant, studious and vigilant.

Introduction to Positive Moods and Emotions

Being attentive to what's really important to ourselves and others can make a tremendous difference in our lifestyle and the level of fulfillment we achieve. It's our responsibility to learn the fine details that make life better for ourself and others. This is a perfect time to use the metaphor "it's the little things in life that count."

Are you attentive and interested when you speak with those you care about? Are you attentive to important dates, tastes, styles and other details that help relationships to thrive? Do you care enough to pay attention to the person you are speaking with, thus making them feel like what they are saying is important? Why not take a few moments now to ponder how attentive you really are about what's really important in your life and in the lives of those you care about? Being attentive is absolutely necessary when you are selling a customer or negotiating a contract. However it is also important to be attentive while interacting in all relationships you value.

In this week's poll, let us know what you think about being attentive during your lifetime? This poll will end on Sunday 02/29/04, when the results will be displayed.

Our polls and commentaries are enjoyed by hundreds of individuals weekly, with previous polls featured in the top ten of search engines like Google and Yahoo.

  • 21% of voters responded that during their lifetime they were most attentive with their Most Important Clients
  • 11% of voters responded that during their lifetime they were most attentive with their Friends or Peers

  • 02% of voters responded that during their lifetime they were most attentive with their Supervisor or Employer
Post-Poll Commentary:
Our top choice in this week's poll was "Being attentive to our spouse or significant other." This was an encouraging top choice. We have been scoring big lately in our polls when it comes to our loving relationships. Being attentive to the person we live most of our adult lives with, makes very good sense. I always believed that your spouse is the most important person in your life and deserves the very best you have to offer an individual. Thus, being attentive to their needs should sit at the top of your priority list.

Children came in with 25% of the vote and important clients took 21%. A disappointing result in this poll was that parents only accounted for 9% of the votes. I would have hoped that parents would have commanded more votes than important clients - but it seems that putting food on the table seemed to require more attention.

As with all our polls, it's our goal to bring ideas like "being attentive" to your consciousness, so that you become more aware of what's important in your life and strive to make small, constant improvements.
