Monday's Word allegory = extended metaphor using objects, characters, and events to represent a hidden or symbolic or larger meaning Orwell's Animal Farm contains a clear and early form of the use of allegory.
Tuesday's Word alliteration = repetition of initial sound in two or more consecutive words “What a tale of terror now their turbulency tells!” is an example of alliteration.
Wednesday's Word amphigory = nonsense verse or composition; satirical imitation or mimicking of another's distinctive, usually serious writing. "The Abominable Snowman by Ogden Nash is an example of amphigory.(I've never seen an abominable snowman,
I'm hoping not to see one,
I'm also hoping, if I do,
That it will be a wee one.)"
Thursday's Word antiphrasis = irony; use of word or description to convey the opposite of its normal or literal meaning To say she was a "mere babe of 40 years," is to use antiphrasis.
Friday's Word assonance = juxtaposition of similar sounds without actually rhyming, esp. vowels "It beats as it sweeps as it cleans," (Slogan for Hoover vacuum cleaners) demonstrates the use of assonance.
